“Emotion, positive energy, and rolling baselines” These are some of the elements that come to mind when PsYnapse is behinds the decks. Psychedelic trance music is a way of life for this Durban based DJ, his aim while performing is to take his audience on an enlightening journey through the mind, body and soul. His style is characterized by uplifting, yet fat & funky sounds, layered with psychedelic textures and basslines.
From a young age, music has always been a big part of PsYnapse’s life. At around the age of 11, he got his first taste of electronic dance music. As time went by, the influence of this new found passion in music grew from strength to strength, leading to the beginning of his clubbing days at the tender age of 14. Then, in the year 2000, he got his first proper introduction to true underground music at the legendary 3-30 nightclub, in Durban. At this point, he fell in love with a genre of music that would forever change and shape his musical journey, that being Hard House.
After hearing and enjoying this frantic and energy filled genre, he was inspired by the 3-30 resident “king of hard house”, Sam Boylan, to learn the art of DJing. This began in 2004, and shortly after he purchased his first DJ setup consisting of a pair of Pioneer CDJ 100’s, and from there he never looked back.
Over the years, he honed his skills, then near the end of 2012, he decided to get into a genre that caught his attention on the sly, and very soon after fell in love with it! That being the genre of psychedelic trance. Since moving over to psytrance, his DJing career blossomed like never before, and he has supported huge international acts (sometimes opening for or playing after them) at different gigs all around South Africa. Some of these artists include Sinerider, DJane Gaby, Champa, Neelix (twice), Morten Granau, Captain Hook, Ace Ventura, Berg (twice), Ranji, Mandragora, and Interactive Noise.
PsYnapse is a force to be reckoned with on the South African outdoor psychedelic scene, and loves to share his love of music with everybody he comes across.
